Karl Anthony-Towns, Ricky Rubio, Kris Dunn, and Andrew Wiggins. What does that up to? A 17-28 record. After failing to be a half decent NBA team ever since Kevin Garnett was traded, the Timberwolves have been lurking around the NBA Draft Lottery. Andrew Wiggins, the number 1 pick, was traded to the T-Wolves from the Cavs for their star at the time Kevin Love. Other than him, Towns was drafted first, Dunn was drafted fifth, and Rubio was also taken fifth.
Does tanking work? Young superstars aren’t winning games in the NBA. You can even look at the Lakers with Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell, and Brandon Ingram who were all picked within the top 10 in the draft. The lakers have a ton of young talent picked very high in the draft yet they are in the cellar of the Western Conference.
If you look at some of the best players this season they weren’t even picked in the top 10. Devin Booker 13th, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard were picked 15th, Jimmy Butler 30th, Isaiah Thomas 60th. All great players, not to mention some MVP candidates, that are helping their respective teams win games. The NBA Draft is becoming a bigger and bigger crap shoot as the years go by. You could end up with an Anthony Bennett at number 1 or an Isaiah Thomas at 60th. Whatever the case is, based on the teams that have continued to tank year in and year out it seems to have stopped working.
